Facing the longest night. Together.

Run or walk with us on the longest night of the year, December 21-22.

The Longest Night Run is a community vigil where we come together to remember those lost and to honor those struggling through difficult seasons in life.

Thursday, December 21st is the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. In southern Manitoba that means 16 hours of darkness, from sunset to sunrise on the 22nd. On this night we will run (or walk, or trike, etc) through the darkness together, rather than sitting through it alone. Though we experience darkness, on this night, we come together to remember we are a light for each other.

This event began as a symbolic gesture to support a friend in the midst of a battle with cancer. Now in its sixth year we will continue to run or walk to support those who are experiencing a difficult season, with proceeds supporting Bethesda Foundation.

You can choose to walk or run, alone or with friends or family – for 30 minutes, 2 hours, 8 hours, or the whole night.

We will face the darkness, together.

FAQ

Any changes in the event for 2023?

Glad you ask! This event is ever evolving, and we’re excited for some changes in 2023. So excited we have a whole post about it, read more here.

Where is this taking place?

Run package pickup and snacks will be available all night at The Public in Steinbach. We have optional routes starting from The Public you can cover.

I’m not in Steinbach, can I still participate?

You’re welcome to participate anywhere, but registration package will only be available for in-person pickup in Steinbach. Also, if you’re in Winnipeg, please join our friends MATR for an organized group run, details here.

I don’t run, can I still participate?

Yes! Feel free to run, walk, ski, or tricycle. There is no minimum distance you need to cover.

When do I sign up for a time slot?

This is a relay, as soon as you register you’re part of the team! A couple weeks before the event we’ll give the opportunity to commit to one (or more!) time slots. Together we’ll run through the night!

Do I have to run or walk for my whole hour-long slot?

Don’t worry if your run is not precisely 60 minutes. The goal of the relay is symbolic solidarity.

Is this a fundraiser?

In 2023, proceeds of the event will be going towards Bethesda Foundation‘s health care support initiatives in southeast Manitoba. Donations given during registration are also eligible for tax-deductible receipts.
